MANILA, Philippines — Super Typhoon Pepito has made a landfall in Panganiban, Catanduanes on Saturday evening, November 16. In its Facebook post, state weather bureau PAGASA said Pepito made landfall at 9:40 p.m. As of 8 p.m., Pepito was located over the coastal waters of Viga, Catanduanes.

Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-Yi), which is projected to reach super typhoon category, is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes tonight or Sunday, November 17, morning.

With Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) expected to make landfall on the island province on Saturday, Catanduanes was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5, the warning system’s highest alert level.

Wind Signal No. 5 has been hoisted in Catanduanes, as the state weather bureau on Saturday warned of a "potentially catastrophic and life-threatening situation" in the northeastern Bicol region after Super Typhoon Pepito further intensified.

Typhoon Pepito continues to pick up strength as it moves west northwestward over the Philippine Sea, PAGASA said in its 2 a.m. weather bulletin. Signal No. 3 has been raised over the eastern portion of Catanduanes and the northeastern portion of Northern Samar.
