STUART — Two weeks after city commissioners seemed to kill chances for a Brightline station downtown, they reversed course Monday and hope to head back to the negotiating table. The decision came at the end of a six-hour City Commission meeting that went past 11 p.m. following a seven-hour meeting two weeks ago. Commissioners took no formal vote.

Stuart city commissioners decided late Monday night they wanted to put the idea of a Brightline station back on track. However, at the Martin County administration building there is frustration.

Residents in Stuart are rallying to save their Brightline station, as the future of the station on the Treasure Coast remains uncertain since the city commission backed out of the deal last month.

The mayor of Stuart says the city is working to renegotiate a deal with Brightline and Martin County to bring a train station to the downtown area.
